What This Policy Covers

This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, and protect your personal information when you use the Ember mobile application ("the App"). We believe in transparency and your right to control your data.

The Short Version

Ember is designed to be privacy-first:

• We collect minimal data — only what's necessary for the app to work
• No tracking or advertising — we don't track your behavior or show ads
• Anonymous by default — you can use most features without creating an account
• Local data storage — your focus sessions and personal data stay on your device
• Your data, your choice — easy access, export, and deletion anytime

What Information We Collect

Information Stored on Your Device

The following data is stored locally on your device only and is never sent to our servers:

• Focus session data: Duration, timing, and completion status of your focus sessions
• App preferences: Soundscape choices, timer settings, notification preferences
• Statistics and streaks: Your focus history, streaks, and achievements

Information Processed by Third Parties

When you purchase a subscription, the following is handled by external services:

• Purchase and subscription data: Processed by the Apple App Store and RevenueCat (our subscription management provider) to manage your subscription status
• Device identifier: A non-personal identifier used by RevenueCat to associate your subscription with your device

Information We Collect Automatically

• Font data: The app downloads fonts from Google Fonts for display purposes

Information We Don't Collect

• Location data — we never access your location
• Contacts or photos — we don't access your address book or camera roll
• Browsing history — we don't track what you do outside the app
• Personal communications — we can't see your messages, calls, or emails
• Marketing tracking — no cookies, pixels, or advertising trackers

How We Use Your Information

We use your information only for these purposes:

1. Provide the service: Make the app work and deliver focus session functionality
2. Manage subscriptions: Process purchases and verify your subscription status via RevenueCat and the Apple App Store
3. Customer support: Help you when you contact us
4. Legal compliance: Meet our legal obligations in Belgium and the EU

We never sell your data or use it for advertising.

Where Your Data is Stored

Your focus sessions, preferences, statistics, and streaks are stored locally on your device. This data is never transmitted to our servers or any third party.

Subscription and purchase data is processed by the Apple App Store and RevenueCat, which may store data in the EU and/or the United States. RevenueCat acts as a data processor on our behalf and is GDPR-compliant. See their privacy policy at https://www.revenuecat.com/privacy.

Data security measures:

• Focus and session data stored exclusively on your device
• No cloud backup or cross-device sync of personal data
• Subscription processing handled by GDPR-compliant providers

Your Rights Under GDPR

As an EU resident, you have these rights:

Right to Access

You can request a copy of all personal data we hold about you. Contact us at ember@eliasvandenberg.be.

Right to Rectification

If your information is incorrect, you can update it in the app settings or contact us.

Right to Erasure ("Right to be Forgotten")

You can request complete deletion of your account and all associated data. This is permanent and cannot be undone.

Right to Data Portability

You can export your data in a standard format (JSON) to take to another service.

Right to Object

You can object to processing of your data. Since we don't use data for marketing, this mainly applies to usage analytics (which you can disable in settings).

Right to Restrict Processing

You can ask us to limit how we process your data while we address your concerns.

3. Specify which right you want to exercise
4. We'll respond within 30 days (usually much faster)

How Long We Keep Your Data

We keep your data only as long as necessary:

• On-device data: Stored as long as the app is installed. Deleting the app removes all local data permanently.
• Subscription data: RevenueCat retains subscription records as required for purchase verification and refund processing. You can request deletion by contacting us.
• Legal requirements: We may need to retain certain records if required by law (e.g., tax/transaction records).

Third-Party Services

We work with minimal third parties, all GDPR-compliant:

Payment Processing

• Apple App Store (for iOS purchases) — handles all payment data; we never see your credit card information

Subscription Management

• RevenueCat — manages subscription status and entitlements. Receives purchase transactions, a device identifier, and subscription state. Does not receive any focus session data, soundscape usage, or personal productivity information. RevenueCat is GDPR-compliant and acts as a data processor. Fonts

• Google Fonts — the app downloads font files from Google's servers for display purposes. Google may receive your device's IP address. Google Fonts does not set cookies or track users. Privacy policy: https://policies.google.com/privacy

Customer Support

• Email only — support is handled directly via email (ember@eliasvandenberg.be). No third-party support tools are used.

We don't use:

• Analytics services (Google Analytics, etc.)
• Advertising networks
• Social media tracking
• Marketing automation tools
• Cloud storage or backup services for your personal data

Children's Privacy

Ember is not intended for children under 16. We don't knowingly collect personal information from children under 16. If we discover we have collected such information, we will delete it immediately.

International Transfers

Your focus session data stays on your device and is never transferred externally. Subscription data processed by RevenueCat may be stored in the United States under GDPR-compliant safeguards (Standard Contractual Clauses). Apple processes purchase data according to their own privacy policy.

Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy occasionally. When we do:

• We'll notify you through the app and by email (if you have an account)
• The new policy will only apply to data collected after the change
• You'll have 30 days to review and object to significant changes
